The Association for Contemporary Jewellery was formed by a group of enthusiastic jewellery makers, teachers and curators in 1997.  Over the next 10 years the organisation grew both numerically and geographically until it became clear that more could be achieved for members if regional groups were formed within the main association.

In 2006 the Wessex Group was formed, initially with 19 members.  This has grown now to over 50 and range from enthusiastic amateur jewellery makers to internationally known fine jewellers, with all points covered in between! Several of our members run successful teaching workshops (more details can be found in their entries on this website) and many participate in national and international prestigious contemporary jewellery exhibitions.

As a group we meet regularly, either for a social/networking lunch, or for one of our many, varied, jewellery related activities. For a schedule of our forthcoming activities, please see the appropriate section on the website. In the recent past we have participated in group selling exhibitions, enamelling and keum bo workshops, a photographing jewellery session, a tools bring and buy sale, and a very successful one day contemporary jewellery fair.

One of our greatest assets is the depth and variety of experience and technical skill with the group.  Any member having a problem can raise it with the group co-ordinator who circulates it to the rest of the group and get a solution (or two) quickly.

We pride ourselves in being a friendly, approachable group, accepting that some members are unable to be as active as others. The group is there for its members. We operate on a ‘put in’ and ‘take out’ basis. If you have a passion for jewellery, want to meet like minded, friendly people, feel you have something to contribute, and want to share in what others have to offer, come and join us!
